Obesity has progressed in a few decades from a public health footnote in developed countries to a top-priority international issue. Because obesity implies increased morbidity and mortality from chronic, debilitating disorders, it is a major burden on individuals and health systems in both developing and developed countries. Obesity is a complex disorder unequally affecting all age groups and socioeconomic classes. Of special concern is increasing childhood obesity.

Urinary and anal incontinence in morbidly obese women considering weight loss surgery
The effects of bariatric surgery on anal continence are not known. Data about proctologic lesions are very rare and do not include clinical data. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate anal continence and anal lesions before and after sleeve gastrectomy SG. We prospectively included all patients presenting for bariatric surgery consultation at Bichat-Claude Bernard University Hospital, Paris, France, between 20 April and 16 December Anal incontinence was defined as a Vaizey score above 4. Of enrolled patients, 98 had SG.
